Under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, MOU has been signed between the Central and State Governments in Madhya Pradesh. The target is that by December 2028, every rural family should get pure drinking water from tap. The scheme will also provide water access to remote and tribal areas.
Now a big step has been taken towards providing pure drinking water from tap to every family in the rural areas of Madhya Pradesh. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 (JJM 2.0) and extended its duration till December 2028. On the very first day of the scheme, an MoU was signed between the Madhya Pradesh Government and the Union Jal Shakti Ministry. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, while Chief Minister Mohan Yadav joined virtually.
MP Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 Target: Tap water to every rural family by 2028
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the aim of the state government is to provide regular and quality drinking water to every rural family by December 2028. He described this scheme as a big and necessary step towards providing safe and pure water in rural areas. Besides, he also expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Central Government.
Rural Water Supply Scheme MP: Water will reach remote and tribal areas
The Chief Minister said that the state government is fully committed to providing water to every household. Through this scheme, tap water facility will reach even remote and tribal areas. This will make life easier especially for women and they will not have to travel long distances to fetch water. A target has been set to complete all the approved rural tap water schemes in the state within the time limit with quality.
Water Conservation MP: Water Festival and Public Awareness Campaign
‘Jal Mahotsav’ is being celebrated in the state from March 8 to March 22. Under this, many programs are being organized to conserve water and make people aware. Also, the schemes whose work has been completed are being handed over to the public and public representatives through ‘Jal Arpan’ festival.
Panchayat Role in Jal Jeevan Mission: Gram Panchayats will get rights
The State Council of Ministers has approved ‘Madhya Pradesh Panchayat (Rural Water Water Scheme Operation, Maintenance and Management Policy), 2026’. Under this policy, Gram Panchayats will be given the responsibility of operation and maintenance of water schemes, which will ensure better management at the local level.
Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 Objective: Tap water and water security in every house
The main objective of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 is to provide pure drinking water of adequate quantity and fixed quality through tap to every rural family. This scheme is an important step towards improving rural living standards as well as ensuring water security towards the goal of ‘Developed India @2047’.
