‘Will continue to work together for peace’: PM Modi speaks to UAE President over Middle East crisis

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan amid the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. During the discussion, the PM reiterated India’s strong condemnation of attacks on UAE.

Both leaders also discussed the importance of ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Notably, Iran has stopped all ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which has resulted in an oil crisis across the globe.

Reiterated India’s strong condemnation of all attacks on UAE: PM Modi

“We discussed the current situation in West Asia. Reiterated India’s strong condemnation of all attacks on the UAE that have resulted in loss of innocent lives and damage to civilian infrastructure,” the PM wrote in a message on X.

He added, “We agreed on the importance of ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. We will continue to work together for the early restoration of peace, security, and stability in the region”.

Tensions have increased in the region ever since the joint operation of the US and Israel killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, as also several top Iranian leaders and military officials. Iran too responded with missile attacks on the military bases of US, Israel and other neighbouring countries.

Drone attack on the UAE

Earlier in the day, a drone attack on the UAE led to a fire at an oil tank farm in Fujairah on the east coast of the Gulf of Oman, which has been targeted on several occasions, the state-run WAM news agency reported. The UAE’s airspace was closed briefly after the military said it was “responding to missile and drone threats from Iran.” Israel on Tuesday said it launched new attacks across Tehran and Beirut.
