There is no hassle of eKYC for LPG, government has given a big order, they will just have to do biometric authentication.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Tuesday said that biometric Aadhaar authentication (eKYC) is necessary only for those LPG consumers who have not yet completed the authentication. This rule is not applicable to all customers, whereas in some posts on social media it was being said that every LPG user will have to do this process.

Giving clarification on social media, the Ministry said that due to some news, confusion has spread among LPG consumers regarding biometric Aadhaar authentication. The ministry said, this is not a new rule. The purpose of the recent post is to encourage more and more LPG consumers to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication.

eKYC necessary for these consumers

The ministry clarified that eKYC is necessary only for those consumers who have not yet completed this process. Those who have already done authentication, there is no need to do it again. This rule is limited to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). According to the ministry, PMUY consumers have to do this process only once in a year and that too after taking 7 cylinders i.e. on the 8th and 9th refill to get the subsidy.

You can do eKYC sitting at home

The government also said that this process is very easy and there is no need to go to the LPG dealer for this. eKYC can be done for free sitting at home. The ministry also clarified that there will be no impact on LPG supply due to this process. That means cylinder supply will continue normally. According to the government, Aadhaar based eKYC brings transparency in the LPG system, directs subsidy to the right people, removes fake beneficiaries and prevents mis-selling of cylinders.
