‘Deadliest in Afghanistan’s history’: Videos show aftermath of Pakistan strike on Kabul hospital

New Delhi: At least 400 people were killed while 250 others suffered injuries after Pakistan launched an air strike on a drug users rehabilitation hospital in Kabul on Monday night. Taliban officials have described the attack deadliest in Afghanistan’s history.

Various videos on social media shows the aftermath of the attack on hospital where 2,000 people were reportedly being treated.

One of the videos shows a large explosion after the Pakistan strike. A large column of flame and smoke could be seen rising over the hospital in the footage.

Another video shows the facility engulfed in flames as firefighters struggle to contain the blaze.

Pakistan in ‘open war’ with Afghanistan

The strike comes amid the continuous attack and counter attack by Pakistan and Afghanistan for past three weeks. Pakistan has recently said that it was involved in “open war” with Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s deputy government spokesman, Hamdullah Fitrat, said in a post on X that the airstrike struck the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital at around 9 pm (local time), severely damaging the 2,000-bed facility and destroying large sections of the complex.

“As a result of the attack, large sections of the hospital have been destroyed, and there are serious concerns about a high number of casualties. Unfortunately, the death toll has so far reached 400, while around 250 others have been reported injured,” he wrote, adding that rescue teams were at the scene working to control the fire and recover the remaining bodies of the victims.

Pakistan counters Taliban’s ‘misinformation’

Pakistan has, meanwhile, rejected the claims saying it “precisely targeted military installations and terrorist support infrastructure”.

Pakistan’s information and broadcasting ministry accused Taliban of “misreporting of facts”.
