Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [भारत]July 17 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, as part of his ‘Students’ Echo’ initiative, here on Friday met a man whose daughter had allegedly committed suicide following the NEET paper leak last May.

In the ‘Students’ Echo’ program organized at Bannu School Ground in Dehradun, the father of the deceased student expressed his grief and said that it has become impossible for him to live without his daughter. He also urged the opposition leader to raise the issue in Parliament so that no one else has to go through such pain. “My daughter came home happily on May 3. I asked her about the exam. She was very happy, but when the news of the paper leak came, she showed it to me on her mobile. I dismissed the report as false, but she insisted that the paper had indeed been leaked. I repeatedly told her not to worry, but she was upset with the NTA. What happened to my daughter, I would not want it to happen to anyone else. Please raise this issue in Parliament so that someone And I can’t live without my daughter,” he told Rahul Gandhi. The NEET-UG 2026 exam was held on May 3 and was canceled by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 12 after allegations of paper leak. Re-examination was held on 21 June.

Rahul’s claim: 7.5 crore students affected by paper leak in 10 years

Speaking at the ‘Students’ Echo’ campaign in Dehradun, Gandhi claimed that in the last decade, at least 7.5 crore young students have suffered due to paper leaks. He criticized the education system, alleging that high technology was being used to facilitate examination paper leaks in the country. “If someone has crores of rupees then you can find these papers on internet, telegram or signal. This is the condition of India’s education system. Incidents of paper leaks are increasing. In the last 10 years, 7.5 crore youth have suffered due to paper leaks,” he alleged.

152 papers leaked in 10 years, no one punished

Furthermore, the Congress MP hit out at the Center saying no one has been punished even after “152 paper leak” incidents in the last decade. He said the actual number of leaked papers could be much higher. “There have been 152 leaks, which means, on average, one paper has been leaked every month over the last decade. Yet, the reality is that the conviction rate is zero. Not a single person has been jailed or punished in connection with these cases. This is only 10% of the tip of the iceberg. The truth is that we don’t know the real number of leaks because we don’t know how many go unreported,” he said.

Addressing the students, he said, “This is a central issue concerning the future of India’s youth. This is an insult to you and your parents; this is an insult to your hard work and dedication.”
