Mumbai Indians kick off preparations for IPL 2026

New Delhi: T20 giants Mumbai Indians have started preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The five-time champions began their preparatory camp in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming season of the cash-rich league, which begins on March 28.

The first group of players to arrive for the training camp included Shardul Thakur, Mayank Markande, Allah Ghazanfar, Naman Dhir, Raja Angad Bawa, Robin Minz, Raghu Sharma, Mayank Rawat, Danish Malewar, Mohammad Izhar and Ashwani Kumar.

Stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and skipper Hardik Pandya are expected to join the camp in the coming days as preparations intensify ahead of the tournament.

MI coaches set the tone for an intensive training camp

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene welcomed the players to the training camp. He was joined by bowling coaches Paras Mhambre and Lasith Malinga.

“There’s always something special about the first day of pre-season. You see the players walk in, the energy builds, and the objective is to start strong. We’ve got the boys who know this franchise inside out, and we have got some exciting new faces coming in,” Jayawardene said.

“Day one sets the tone for the entire campaign. We wanted everyone to feel the intent from the very first session, in how we train, how we prepare, and how we show up for each other. The first session is always exciting, but it’s also the start of something serious and we know what we’re building towards.”

The opening session focused on a structured fitness and conditioning block. The session was conducted by the strength and conditioning team, which put players through their paces with movement drills, agility work, and fitness assessments.

MI, who won their last of five titles six years ago in 2020, reached the playoffs last season. The Hardik Pandya-led side will open its 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium.
