Navratri 2026 Special: In Hindu religion, the festival of Navratri is considered very sacred and important for the worship of Mother Durga. In the year 2026, Chaitra Navratri will be celebrated from 19th March to 27th March. Whenever there is talk of Navratri and the victory of religion over unrighteousness, the incident of Navratri worship done by Lord Ram and the killing of Ravana comes to our mind. But do you know that apart from Ravana, during the Mahabharata period, a Pandava also did special worship of Goddess Durga before entering the battlefield? Let us know about that mythological story.
Arjun had worshiped Goddess Durga
According to the legend, among the Pandavas, Arjun also did special worship of Goddess Durga. It is said that when the Mahabharata war was about to begin, Lord Krishna advised Arjun to worship Goddess Durga. Lord Shri Krishna told Arjun that if he wanted to win the war, he should first worship Goddess Durga. Following the advice of Shri Krishna, Arjun worshiped Goddess Durga with full devotion and rituals.
Goddess Durga blessed Vijay
According to the story, Mother Durga appeared pleased with Arjun’s devotion and blessed him with victory in the war. Devi said that the victory of Pandavas is certain in this war to protect the religion. After this, Arjun participated in the war with full confidence and ultimately the Pandavas were victorious in the war of Mahabharata. That is why worship of Maa Durga during Navratri is considered a symbol of strength, courage and victory.
Ravana was also a devotee of Maa Durga
According to mythological beliefs, Ravana was also a great devotee of Mother Durga. He had performed rigorous penance and sacrifices many times to please the Goddess. It is believed that he had done special meditation of the Goddess to attain power.
Importance of Navratri Puja
The nine days of Navratri are considered very auspicious for the worship of Goddess Durga. Fasting, worshiping, reciting Durga Saptashati during these days brings happiness, prosperity and positive energy in life. There is a religious belief that worshiping Goddess Durga with true heart during Navratri frees one from fear, obstacles and negative powers and opens the way to success in life. Thus, it is told in mythology that not only Ravana, but also the great archer Arjun of Mahabharata worshiped Mother Durga and achieved victory with the blessings of the Goddess.
