Tamil Nadu polls: Will Vijay’s TVK tie up with BJP? Actor-politician attends CBI questioning amid growing buzz

New Delhi: The Assembly elections 2026 in Tamil Nadu are going to take place on April 23 in single phase and the counting of votes will take place on May 4, according to the announcement made by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday.

BJP offers Vijay Deputy CM post

As the battle to take control of the state heats up, the BJP has offered Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay the post of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister if the NDA manages to secure victory in the polls, as per a India Today report. Moreover, the BJP has offered around 80 seats to the TVK, with the talks between the two camps reportedly in the final phase.

If Vijay joins with the BJP, then it would result in a tectonic change in Tamil Nadu’s political arena, with the actor already enjoying immense popularity in the state, and he reportedly wants the post of the Chief Minister. After his entry into active politics, Vijay’s TVK has rapidly garnered a humongous popularity.

TVK district secretaries support idea

Earlier, during an emergency consultative meeting of TVK district secretaries, approximately 98 district secretaries expressed their support for the idea of aligning with the NDA coalition. According to an opinion poll conducted by the Loyola College Alumni Association’s Indian Political Democratic Strategies (IPDS) organization, TVK is closing the gap with the DMK, with Vijay emerging as a formidable contender in the race for the Chief Minister’s post.

Vijay questioned by CBI

Notably, Vijay was questioned by the CBI on Sunday in the Karur stampede case. It was the third session of Vijay’s questioning and he was previously questioned twice in January. Vijay has asked to keep the place of questioning in Chennai or any office in Tamil Nadu, citing political engagements. On September 27, 2025, a stampeded took place in Vijay’s rally in Karur which led to the death of 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.
