New Delhi: The Election Commission on Sunday announced dates for four states and five union territories. Among states which are West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, with Puducherry being the only Union Territory. The dates were announced after the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar visited all four states and Union Territories to check poll preparedness,
Addressing the press conference, the CEC said, “During the recent visit, the commission met all political parties and received their suggests, part from other officials, BLOs and first time voters. These five states and Uts represent different geographic and cultural landscapes of India. They reflect unity in diversity of our country.”
‘SIR done to make sure that all eligible voters are not left out’
“SIR is done to make sure that all eligible voters are not left out and also to ensure that ineligible voters do not vote. The total number of voters in these elections will be 17.4 crores. and exercise their rights. Will make a special appeal to first-time voters. I urge them to participate in these elections and to cast their voteswith enthusiasm. Elections in India are festivals of democracy,” he added
824 constituencies would go to votes
Pointing out that 824 constituencies would go to votes overall, he added, “The total voters of Assam would be 2.50 crore, Kerala 2.50 crore, Puducherry 9.44 lakhs, Tamil Nadu 5.67 crore and West Bengal 6.44 crore. There will be a total of 2.19 lakh polling booths.In Assam, there will be 2,586 centenarians, In Kerala, there will be 1,571, 54 in Puducherry, 2,530 in Tamil Nadu, and 6,653 in West Bengal”.
