Government resumes supply of commercial LPG

The government has confirmed that distribution of commercial LPG cylinders has been resumed for some industries in many states. Officials said the move is aimed at providing support to businesses and ensuring that industries can continue to operate without any disruption. According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing and Oil Refinery) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, commercial consumers are now getting supply of LPG again. Sharma said during a briefing that in some states, commercial cylinders are being supplied directly to industries to meet their operational needs. This decision is expected to provide relief to those restaurants, hotels and other commercial establishments which depend heavily on LPG for their daily operations.

Government appealed to the public

Officials have assured consumers that despite the ongoing geopolitical tension in the Middle East, there is no shortage of LPG in the country. Officials said that although bookings have increased in recent times, the government is closely monitoring the LPG supply chain to ensure uninterrupted availability for both domestic and commercial users. Consumers have also been appealed not to panic and book as there is sufficient stock of LPG available at retail outlets.

LPG tankers passing through Hormuz Strait

Two LPG carriers have already passed safely through the Strait of Hormuz; It is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil and gas. According to media sources, Iran has provided safe passage to Indian-flagged LPG tankers, allowing them to pass through the region despite the ongoing conflict. Currently, 28 Indian-flagged ships are operating in the Persian Gulf region, and authorities are closely monitoring their safety.

Monitoring of LPG transport intensified amid tension in the Gulf

In view of the changing maritime situation, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has further strengthened surveillance measures in the Persian Gulf region. Meanwhile, two oil tankers – Shivalik and Nanda Devi – are expected to reach India in the next few days. Both these ships, owned by Shipping Corporation of India, are being guided by naval ships to ensure their safe transit through strategically sensitive waters. About 20 percent of global oil and gas exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz, making this route extremely important from the security point of view for global energy supply and LPG consignments to India.
