Jindal Stainless provided 40% steel for the country’s first hydrogen train. Jindal Stainless Supplied 40 Percent Steel For India’s First Hydrogen Train

Jindal Stainless has supplied approximately 40% of the total stainless steel used in making the coach body for India’s first hydrogen train. The company supplied premium grade steel from its Jajpur and Hissar plants. This train is a big step towards self-reliant India.

Jindal Stainless has supplied approximately 40 per cent of the total stainless steel required for the coach body of India’s first hydrogen-powered train. The company gave this information in a stock exchange filing on Friday. According to the press release attached with the filing, the company supplied premium austenitic stainless steel grade X5CrNi1810 from its Jajpur and Hisar plants for manufacturing the train.

“The future of mobility will be defined not only by clean sources of energy, but also by advanced materials that make these technologies more efficient, durable and sustainable,” said Abhyudaya Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless.

He further said, “We are proud to contribute to India’s first hydrogen-powered train, which is an important milestone in the country’s clean mobility journey and vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.”

Why is stainless steel special?

The company said stainless steel is suitable for modern railway coaches due to its corrosion resistance, strength-to-weight ratio, crash-worthiness, fire and impact resistance, durability and recyclability. Its lightweight properties also help improve energy efficiency, making the material suitable for emerging transportation technologies such as hydrogen-powered trains, the release said.

“Stainless steel has consistently proven its value in railway applications through its strength, corrosion resistance, safety and lifecycle performance,” Jindal said.

He further added, “As India accelerates the development of next generation transportation infrastructure, we are committed to delivering material solutions that enable innovation, sustainability and long-term value.”

PM Modi showed the green signal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off India’s first indigenous hydrogen-powered train between Haryana’s Jind and Sonipat. Designed, engineered and integrated in India using indigenous technology, the train consists of 10 coaches and aims to pioneer clean and sustainable rail transport. With its launch, India has joined the select group of countries operating hydrogen-powered trains. (ANI)
