Story of Papamochani Ekadashi
Once upon a time there was a dense forest named Chaitrarath. Apsarais used to come and go there. A sage named Medhavi also used to do penance in the same forest. One day an Apsara named Manjughosa captivated him. Maharishi Medhavi too, being fascinated by the beauty of that Apsara, forgot the path of devotion and started having fun with her under the influence of lust.

57 years passed while Maharishi Medhavi and Apsara Manjughosha were having fun. When Maharishi Medhavi realized that his penance was broken, he cursed Manjughosha to become a vampire. When the nymph became a vampire, she asked Maharishi the solution to her curse. Then Maharishi Medhavi asked him to fast on Papmochani Ekadashi.
After this, Maharishi Medhavi also realized his mistake and went to his father Chyavan Rishi and asked for a solution to get rid of this sin. Rishi Chyavan also asked his son to observe a fast on Papamochani Ekadashi. In this way, both Rishi Medhavi and Apsara observed the fast of Papmochani Ekadashi as per the rituals, due to which they became free from sin.
After being freed from sin, Manju Ghosha returned to heaven and Rishi Medhavi also regained his penance. By fasting on this Ekadashi, one gets freedom from all sins and the sins of the one who listens to the story of this Ekadashi are also destroyed.
