Gas crisis: Why is there a stampede?
Due to war, gas plants of Gulf countries (UAE, Qatar, Saudi) have been affected. India imports 60% of its gas requirement from these countries. In panic, people are booking 88 lakh cylinders every day, while the capacity of the companies is less. Now only a few ships are able to pass through the route (Hormuz) which India needs for 90% of its foreign LPG.
What is biogas?
Just as cow-buffalo dung releases gas when it decomposes, similarly your kitchen waste (vegetable peels, leftover food) also produces gas. This gas is collected in a tank and sent to your stove through pipes. This is called biogas.
How to make free gas at home?
- Collect potato peels, rotten vegetables, fruit remains and leftover stale food from your kitchen in one place.
- Now readymade biogas tanks (digesters) like water tanks are available in the market. You can also make it from an old tank of 500 or 1000 liters.
- Mix some water in the garbage and pour it inside the tank.
- This waste rots inside the tank and produces ‘methane’ gas. Connect this gas directly to your biogas stove through a pipe.
- This will not only give you free gas, but also the waste left will become the best organic fertilizer for your plants.
