New Delhi: A 35-year-old man was beaten up and bludgeoned to death by 2 of his friends in Mumbai. The trio shared a flat and lived together. The murder allegedly took place on a suspicion that the victim had finished a pan full of fish kept in the kitchen.
Victim was drunk, friends killed him
According to the Mumbai Police, the victim was Afsar, who lived in a flat in Mumbai with 2 of his friends, Suresh and Rajesh Rameshnath alias Nepali. The three were cooking fish at their house in Mumbai’s Goregaon area, on February 24. Afsar was also drinking at the time.
After cooking the fish, all three of them fell asleep. As they slept, rats in their home ate up all the fish from the pan, leaving it completely empty.
When Suresh and Rajesh woke up and went to eat the fish, they found the frying pan in which they had cooked the food empty. They suspected that Afsar had eaten all the fish. They woke him up and accused him of finishing all the food by himself. Afsar defended himself, saying that he had not eaten the fish. This led to a major argument between the three friends.
During the argument, Rajesh and Suresh beat up Afsar badly, blowing kicks and punches on him. In a fit of rage they then picked up a huge stone and bludgeoned the man to death. They crushed his head with the stone, said a report in NDTV.
Accused fled after murder, arrested
Soon after killing Afsar,Suresh and Rajesh fled the scene. They went to Haryana. Suresh is a resident of Haryana’s Kaithal, while Rajesh is from Nepal.
As soon as the murder was discovered a case was filed at Vanrai Police Station in Mumbai. An investigating team launched a manhunt and started to investigate the case. After talking to locals in the area, they discovered that the victim and Rajesh and Suresh were all scrap dealers.
An investigating officer said that the police team faced a major challenge as the 2 accused did not own a mobile phone and neither did they have any documents. However after talking to locals and other rag pickers in the area, police traced the duo. While Suresh was found in Haryana, Rajesh was arrested from a railway station.
Rajesh has a criminal background. He has reportedly previously been involved in murders and extortions, said officials.
The victim’s body was sent for post mortem and efforts are on to contact his family, said Mumbai Police in a statement.
