Toyota Land Cruiser FJ News: DuA big news has come out regarding Toyota’s new SUV, Land Cruiser FJ, which is making waves in the Indian auto market. If reports are to be believed, diesel engine option may also be available in this powerful vehicle in future. At present, the only information is that this model will come in petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants in India. But now the news of planning its diesel version for the international market is attracting the attention of car enthusiasts.

Japan’s famous auto magazine ‘Best Car’ has reported that Toyota is considering providing a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV diesel engine in this SUV. This is the same engine which is currently used in vehicles like Toyota Fortuner, Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado. However, the report also says that this diesel variant will not be launched immediately. It is believed that its diesel model may be launched in the market about three years after the global launch of the vehicle, i.e. by 2029.

Toyota has not officially said anything about the reason for the delay in the diesel version. But auto experts believe that the company will need time to make changes in the engine according to the stringent emission norms (pollution standards). The main reason for this is believed to be to upgrade the engine to meet future environmental regulations.

The 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre engine can produce up to 150 kW (201 hp) of power and 500 Nm of torque, depending on the model. This engine comes with 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 8-speed automatic gearbox. In some countries, the option of 48-volt mild-hybrid technology is also given in it.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is a C-segment SUV. Its length is about 4575 mm, width is 1855 mm, height is 1960 mm and wheelbase is 2580 mm. The vehicle is built on a ladder-frame chassis and is based on the IMV 0 platform. Toyota Hilux Champ pickup truck is also built on the same platform.

The engine that Toyota has officially confirmed so far is the 2TR-FE 2.7-litre petrol unit. This engine will give power of 120 kW (161 hp) and torque of 246 Nm. It will also have a 6-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system.

According to reports, this model will be manufactured in India by Toyota Kirloskar Motor. Its production will take place in a new plant in Maharashtra and it can be launched in the market by the end of 2028. It is expected that the starting price of this SUV can start from around Rs 30 lakh. If this happens, it will give tough competition to vehicles like Mahindra Scorpio-N.
