According to a report by media reports and Global Watch Analysis, Oli has a bank account in Mirbod Bank’s branch in Geneva, Switzerland, with about Rs 41 crore deposit. He has kept this amount as investment, due to which he gets a return of about Rs 1.87 crore every year. This investment is being considered highly for a public official of the country like Nepal and this has intensified the controversy in political circles. The question is arising between opposition parties and civil society as to what is the source of such a large property.

Increased proximity with China increases property

According to experts and investigation reports, a major reason for the unexpected increase in Oli’s wealth is their growing proximity with China. Oli took private economic benefits in exchange for benefiting Chinese companies in big infrastructure projects and businesses in Nepal. China’s investment and business cooperation promoted Oli’s assets, which increased his economic condition. Political observers believe that this relationship is making a big impact on Nepal’s internal politics and Oli’s personal money power.

Property increases rapidly

73 -year -old KP Sharma Oli has become the Prime Minister of Nepal three times. For the first time, he held this post from October 2015 to August 2016. He took over as Prime Minister for the second time in February 2018 and remained in office till May 2021. He became Prime Minister for the third time in July 2024. Today, on 9 September, he has resigned from this post.

In the year 2018, when Oli made his property details public, it saw a huge increase in compared to 2015. At that time, he had about 15 tola gold, 20 lakh rupees in bank accounts, and land and property in Bhaktapur district. However, his total assets had increased manifold compared to 2015. This fast growing property worried the opposition and the media, which raised questions how this wealth increased in such a short period. At the same time, the property of his wife Radhika Shakya has also increased, which includes cash and land.

Going abroad for treatment

Amidst political instability, it is also reported that Oli is planning to go for Dubai treatment. Due to the ongoing violence and demonstrations in the country, concern is being raised about their health and safety.
