Mediterranean diet is considered one of the healthiest diets in the world to prevent heart diseases, but now a study by Delhi AIIMS has revealed that if this diet is mixed with Indian food, it can be even more beneficial for the heart. This claim has been made in a study conducted in AIIMS Delhi.
Research has shown that a diet has been prepared by combining Indian pulses, vegetables and whole grains with the Mediterranean diet.
This diet was tested on heart patients in a cardiology clinic in New Delhi. About 53 people followed this diet for three months. Research revealed that people who were following the diet reduced obesity, sugar remained under control and leptin hormone was balanced. This is the same hormone that causes swelling in the body and increases the risk of heart diseases.
This is a type of anti-inflammatory diet
Dr. Ambuj Roy, Professor in the Department of Cardiology at Delhi AIIMS. Talking to TV9, he told that in our research we gave a kind of anti-inflammatory diet to the patients. With its help it was beneficial in reducing swelling in the body. Dr. Ambuj said that a diet which contains more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy fats helps in reducing inflammation in the body. It has direct benefits for the heart and helps a lot in reducing the risk of heart related diseases.
What is included in this diet
Foods like pulses, gram, paneer are included in this diet. A large number of people in India are vegetarian, hence pulses and legumes are considered a good source of protein. Millet, barley and buckwheat are included in this diet as whole grains. Roti and chapatti are also given with wheat flour instead of maida. Healthy fat is also given with this diet. For this, peanut oil and mustard oil were used, while the use of ghee and coconut oil was reduced significantly.
Why are heart diseases increasing?
Dr. Ambuj says that a major reason for the increase in heart diseases is poor diet. People have now started eating more junk food. Fried food has increased in the diet. Consume less protein and vitamins. Which is a major reason for the increase in heart diseases.
