Tamil Nadu weather: Heat intensifies across the state; light rains expected in southern coastal districts

Chennai: The intensity of summer heat has increased across Tamil Nadu over the past few days, with the Chennai Meteorological Centre issuing a warning that temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming week. Cities such as Vellore, Madurai, and Erode are experiencing particularly severe heat conditions, drawing significant attention to the weather advisory.

According to the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Centre, an atmospheric lower-level circulation prevails over Lakshadweep and the adjoining Comorin Sea areas, while another lower-level circulation is active over the Gulf of Mannar and its adjoining areas. These systems are expected to influence weather patterns in the southern parts of the state.

Very light rain may occur at one or two places in the coastal districts of South Tamil Nadu today, while dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. On March 14 and 15, very light rain may occur at isolated places in Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts, with dry conditions continuing elsewhere. Similar weather is forecast for March 16, with light rain possible at one or two places in the same districts.

On March 17, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in South Tamil Nadu and North Interior Tamil Nadu, while dry weather is likely to prevail over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Towards the end of the forecast period, on March 18 and 19, moderate rain may occur at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky will remain partly cloudy today, with a maximum temperature likely around 33 to 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius. Tomorrow, March 14, temperatures may rise slightly, with the maximum expected to hover between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum remaining around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius.
