New Delhi: Dating apps have spent years perfecting the swipe. Now the next phase seems to be artificial intelligence quietly shaping how matches appear. Tinder has announced a wide set of product updates that combine AI, new social features, and safety tools. The changes were revealed at the company’s first product keynote called Tinder Sparks 2026: Start Something New.
The updates signal a shift in how the platform wants people to use the app. Tinder says it wants users to spend less time endlessly browsing profiles and more time forming actual connections. The company is adding AI-driven matchmaking tools, new dating formats, and real-world events to help users move from online chats to offline meetings.
Tinder expands AI matchmaking with Chemistry
One of the biggest additions is an AI feature called Chemistry. The system recommends potential matches using signals from a user’s profile, activity and preferences. Instead of scrolling through hundreds of profiles, the AI suggests curated matches each day.
The company says the system studies several inputs to understand users better, for example, profile details and interests, photo patterns through a feature called Camera Roll Scan, and in-app activity signals through Learning Mode.
Learning Mode is designed to quickly understand user preferences and improve recommendations. Tinder says this system can tailor suggestions faster for both new and returning users.
Spencer Rascoff, chief executive of Tinder and Match Group, said the changes reflect how younger users want dating apps to evolve, “With more than half our users under 30, we’re building alongside a generation that wants dating to feel more authentic, lower-pressure, and worth their time.”
He added that AI is now central to how Tinder recommends profiles.
New modes aim to make matching more social
Tinder is also expanding several “Modes” that allow users to match based on shared interests. These modes act like filters on top of the regular swipe experience.
Two major ones are being rolled out globally.
- Music Mode which highlights shared music taste
- Astrology Mode which matches users based on zodiac compatibility
Music already plays a role in the app. Tinder says more than half of US matches involve at least one profile with a Spotify Anthem linked to it.
Astrology Mode allows users to add birth details and display Sun, Moon and Rising signs.
The company says early testing showed a nearly 20 percent increase in likes sent by women on astrology enabled profiles.
Tinder experiments with real world events and video dating
Tinder is also trying to move dating beyond the phone screen.
The company is testing new features designed to bring users together in real life.
These include:
- Events that help users discover local gatherings
- Video speed dating with three minute live chats
The Events feature is currently being tested in Los Angeles. Users will be able to see which singles are interested in attending the same activities such as trivia nights or pottery classes.
Video speed dating will allow verified users to join live events and meet multiple matches in quick video conversations.
AI safety tools monitor conversations
Tinder is also expanding AI-driven safety tools across the app. The company says large language models are now improving two features already used on the platform.
- “Are You Sure?” which warns users before sending potentially harmful messages
- “Does This Bother You?” which detects offensive content
The second feature now includes an automatic blur option that hides messages flagged as potentially disrespectful.
Rascoff said these systems aim to make dating interactions safer and easier for users.
