Those who follow Smarta sect will celebrate the festival of Ram Navami on 26th March, while the people of Vaishnav sect will celebrate this festival on 27th March. Smarta tradition was founded by Adi Shankaracharya. People of Smarta sect consider all the gods and goddesses as one and the same, these people perform Panchayatan puja, in which five gods are worshiped together. People of Vaishnav sect worship Lord Vishnu and his incarnations.
Why did Lord Vishnu take the incarnation of Shri Ram?
According to religious texts, when the terror of demons increased greatly in Tretayuga, all the gods and goddesses went to Lord Vishnu and asked him to end the demons. Hearing the call of the gods, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Shri Ram, son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. In this incarnation, Shri Ram killed many gods like Ravana, Kumbhakarna, Khar-Dushan etc.
