Hyderabad: At least four people were killed and many were injured when a private bus travelling from Hyderabad to Akola, Maharashtra, carrying 22 passengers, overturned on National Highway-44 near Indalwai mandal, Nizamabad district on early Friday.
Those who died in the accident were identified as include Manjusha,30, her son Rishi,7, Mohammed Abbas, 40, Yusuf, from Bengaluru.
Staff from a nearby toll plaza responded immediately and shifted the injured to a government hospital.
Preliminary inquiry suggests driver asleep at the wheel:
Police officials stated that the accident occurred while all the passengers were asleep and attributed the crash to excessive speed.
“The bus swerved to the left, crashed into a rock on the roadside and overturned. Those who were crushed under the bus died on the spot. Several others including cleaner and driver sustained injuries,” Dichpally Circle Inspector Vinod said.
The accident occurred at around 2.30 am, when the bus operated by Khurana travels, was passing through Dichpally, he said. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver may have been asleep at the wheel.
The driver was taken into police custody after he was discharged from the hospital.
