India-Iran talks amid Middle East tension, focus on energy security

Important talks have taken place between India and Iran amid increasing tension in the Middle East. In this conversation, security of sea vessels and India’s energy supply were discussed. This information was given by the government on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar recently spoke on phone with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. There have been three talks between the two leaders in the last few days.

Discussion on energy security and shipping

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that in the recent talks, issues related to the security of sea vessels and India’s energy needs were especially discussed. However, he said that it would be too early to give more information about this conversation at the moment.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East may impact global oil supplies and maritime trade routes. In such a situation, energy security and security of shipping routes have become an important issue for India.

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi has also talked to many leaders of the Gulf region on phone. He has emphasized on adopting the path of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve this crisis. The government said that India’s priority is to restore peace in the region and ensure the safety of civilians.

Keeping an eye on the security of Indians in Iran

According to the government, about 9,000 Indian citizens are present in Iran. These include students, sailors, businessmen, professionals and pilgrims. The Ministry of External Affairs said that many Indians have been sent to safe places from Tehran. People who want to leave Iran are being helped to exit through Azerbaijan and Armenia, so that they can take flights from there and return to India.

The government says that the Indian Embassy in Tehran is in constant touch with the Indian community and all possible help is being provided if needed.
