Mandhira Kapur Seeks Documents From Priya Sachdev Kapur In Defamation Case; Patiala House Court Issues Notice

The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has issued a notice on an application filed by Mandhira Kapur, sister of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, seeking certain documents from Priya Sachdev Kapur in an ongoing defamation case.

During the hearing, Mandhira submitted her reply to the complaint and requested the court to direct the complainant to produce relevant documents. Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, representing Priya, opposed the plea, arguing that the request was not maintainable.

Advocate Amit Prasad, representing Mandhira Kapur, filed a reply to the defamation complaint along with an application seeking production of certain documents. He argued that the alleged defamatory statements should not be viewed in isolation and cited a judgment of the Supreme Court of India to support the request.

However, Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Priya Sachdev Kapur, contended that the cited judgment was not applicable to the current case. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for March 30.

In January this year, Priya Sachdev Kapur filed a criminal defamation case against her sister-in-law Mandhira Kapur, alleging that several statements made by her on podcasts, social media and media interviews contained false claims and personal attacks despite the matter being under judicial consideration.

In a conversation with Republic TV, Mandhira also reacted to the defamation suit, saying, “I’m not…being malicious or anything. If the truth is what it is, there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m not here to lie. What is Mandira’s truth here? The truth is that no one can walk away with our legacy and we will get it back. That is the truth.” “What is the defamation here? What bit is the defamation? She may not like what is being said but then I can’t help it if it’s the truth…I mean, I’m not saying anything that, you know, which is defaming. I’m literally telling the truth,” she further added.
