Lucknow Super Giants: Sanjeev Goenka of RPSG Group is preparing to sell some stake in Lucknow Super Giants. With this, he has also added his name to the list of IPL franchise owners who are planning to make money from their cricket teams. According to Moneycontrol report, Sanjeev Goenka is considering selling up to 15 percent stake in LSG.
Investors will take the final decision on selling LSG stake
However, according to sources, the final decision to sell LSG stake will depend on the valuation done by investors. If the offers are not attractive then RPSG Group cannot proceed further in this matter. This step of Sanjiv Goenka has come at a time when investors are coming forward to acquire franchises like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
RPSG had bought LSG for Rs 7,090 crore.
RPSG Group had acquired the Lucknow franchise for Rs 7,090 crore in November 2021. This franchise has been placed through RPSG Sports Private Limited. According to CareAge Ratings, during H1FY26, RPSL received Rs 399 crore as franchise rights from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, while it raised Rs 458 crore in FY2025. In the first half of FY 2026, this IPL franchise recorded revenue of Rs 495.9 crore and profit of Rs 63.7 crore.
The report said that there was a 20 percent decline in revenue in the financial year 2025 to Rs 557 crore, mainly due to the lesser number of matches played that year and the lower ranking of LSG in the IPL season 2024 as compared to 2023. In H1FY 2026, the company’s revenue grew by about 3 percent compared to H1FY 2025. RPSG Group has to pay franchise fees of Rs 709 crore every year till FY 2031.
