Surat’s New Green Express corridor to cut Delhi-Chennai distance by 320 km, says Gadkari

New Delhi: The Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that the government has planned to construct a new Green Express Highway between Surat and Kurnool, which will reduce the distance between Delhi and Chennai.

While answering the supplementary queries during the Question Hour, Gadkari said that after the construction of the Express highway, the travel time will be reduced to within 12 hours between Delhi and Mumbai.

“Now, we have taken a decision which is a historical decision, of making the Express highway from Mumbai to Delhi, which is already 70-80 per cent complete. “After Surat, we are making a new Green Express highway, starting from Surat to Nasik to Ahmednagar to Sholapur to Kurnool, and from there it will connect to Chennai, Kanyakumari, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Cochin. It is a new connectivity from North India to South India,” the Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari informed.

How much distance will this Express Highway reduce?

The Express Highway will reduce the distance between Delhi and Chennai by 320 Kms. Not just distance, it will also reduce the cost, and Mumbai-Delhi will be possible within 12 hours.

Why is it important?

This will be a very important connectivity which will start from Pune to Kolhapur, the minister said. The most important problem is not for Kolhapur or Maharashtra, rather it is for the entire country, as traffic starts from Delhi in North India and is going towards South passing through Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad, and after the traffic diverts to Mumbai, then to Pune and from Pune to Kolhapur and Sholapur.
