UP Anganwadi Nutrition Scheme: A new system of recipe-based supplementary nutrition will be implemented at Anganwadi centers in Uttar Pradesh from April. Distribution will be done through face recognition system. Children, pregnant and lactating women will get separate nutritious food. The government has also sanctioned Rs 301 crore for this.
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement a new system for better nutrition of children, pregnant and lactating women. Recipe-based supplementary nutritious food will be provided at Anganwadi centers in the state from April. This system is being implemented under the guidelines of the Government of India and the National Food Security Act 2013. The special thing is that Uttar Pradesh is going to become the first state in the country to implement this new system.
Nutrition will be distributed through face recognition system
To increase transparency in the new system, the government has decided to implement Face Recognition System (FRT). Under this, now offline distribution of supplementary nutrition at Anganwadi centers will not be valid. The entire process of providing nutrition to the beneficiaries will be recorded through face recognition system. This will ensure that nutritious food reaches only the right beneficiaries and there are no irregularities in distribution.

Different nutritious food for different age groups
The government has made separate arrangements for food keeping in mind the different needs of children and women. Children aged six months to one year will be given sweet pudding made of flour and gram flour. Children aged one to three years will also get the same halwa. Children aged three to six years will be given flour-gram flour barfi and porridge-mung-soy khichdi. Flour-gram flour-soy barfi and dalia-mung-dal khichdi have been prescribed for pregnant and lactating women.
Special diet for severely malnourished children
Special provision has also been made in this scheme for children suffering from malnutrition. Children aged six months to one year will be given nutritious halwa, while children aged one to three years will get nutritious halwa named ‘Bal Sanjeevani’. Children aged three to six years will be given nutritious halwa and porridge. This recipe based meal also includes 11 essential micronutrients along with calories and protein so that children and women can get balanced nutrition.
Fund of Rs 301 crore to strengthen the scheme
To strengthen this new system, the state government has also approved huge financial support. The Council of Ministers has approved Viability Gap Fund of Rs 301.19 crore. This fund will be given to provide financial assistance to the production units running under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission. The government says that this will improve the quality of take home ration and beneficiaries will be able to get nutritious food regularly at Anganwadi centres.
