Seeing the terrible and strange petition in the Supreme Court, the CJI said – do not bring such a petition again. Supreme Court Slams Lawyer Over Bizarre Plea On Onions Negative Energy

Supreme Court dismisses 5 “frivolous” petitions demanding investigation into ‘negative energy’ of onion. The court reprimanded the petitioner, termed it a waste of time and warned for the future.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court rejected five strange petitions one after the other. One of these petitions was regarding the demand for testing of ‘negative energy’ in onion. The court termed these petitions as “frivolous and baseless” and strongly reprimanded petitioner lawyer Sachin Gupta.

The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi asked the lawyer what was the point of demanding a scientific study on whether onion and garlic contain ‘tamasic’ (negative) energy? Chief Justice Surya Kant made a scathing comment and said, “Do you prepare all these petitions at midnight? Don’t waste the precious time of the court.”

The petition cited the food habits of the Jain community, who traditionally avoid onion and garlic and consider them ‘tamasic’ foods. The court raised questions on the intention behind the petition and asked why he was trying to hurt the sentiments of the Jain community.

On this the petitioner argued that this matter is serious. He claimed that in Gujarat, a divorce has even taken place over the use of onion in food. Expressing deep displeasure over this, the bench warned the petitioner against filing such petitions in future.

The court also rejected four other PILs filed by Gupta. These demanded regulation of harmful substances in alcohol and tobacco products, ensuring mandatory registration of properties and making guidelines on declassification of classical languages. The Chief Justice finally said that if the petitioners were not lawyers, the court would have imposed a heavy fine on them.
