These days a new echo is being heard in the streets of Taragaon situated in the remote forest area of Bastar district. This is the echo of the cheerful smile and clear words of 6-year-old boy Vikram Kashyap. Born in a laborer family, the beginning of life for Vikram was full of struggles. Due to the problem of congenital cleft lip and palate (cleft lip and palate), not only did he have difficulty in eating, but his speech was also unclear.
I couldn’t even dream of laughing openly
For Vikram Kashyap, the wound was deeper than physical pain. Surrounded by the inferiority complex of the villagers and the hesitation among his classmates, Vikram often kept his face hidden and could only dream of laughing openly like other children.
The lock of Vikram’s locked fate opened
Vikram’s sealed fate was unlocked when the government’s Viva team reached Taragaon for Anganwadi investigation. During the investigation, the team members not only made an accurate diagnosis of Vikram’s condition, but also assured his father Narsingh Kashyap of better treatment. Initially the family had many apprehensions, but the sensitivity and constant communication of the health department officials convinced them for the operation.
Doctors of Raipur gave a new look to Vikram
- Under the able guidance of Block Medical Officer, Community Health Center, Lohandiguda, District Early Intervention Center Manager and Chief Medical and Health Officer, Jagdalpur, Vikram was taken to Medicine Hospital of the capital Raipur for better treatment.
- The team of expert surgeons at Raipur hospital performed a successful operation on Vikram, which gave a new look to his cleft lip and palate. Within a few weeks, when Vikram returned to his village Taragaon, the scene there had changed. The shy child who once walked with his face covered, was now in front of everyone as a confident child.
- After the successful operation, today Vikram not only talks to his father in a clear voice, but is also supporting his mother by helping her in household chores. His father Narsingh proudly says that the government’s Chirayu scheme has proved to be no less than a boon for his son.
