OLA Uber Registration UP: The UP government has decided to implement new rules for app-based cab services like Ola and Uber. Now companies will have to get registration, license fee, driver’s medical test and police verification done. After the implementation of the rules, no cab will be able to run without registration.
A big news has come out for the passengers using cab services in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi government has now decided to increase strictness on app based taxi services. The government says that this will improve both the safety and transparency of passengers.
After the cabinet meeting held in Lucknow, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh told reporters that now app-based cab companies will also have to get official registration in the state. After this decision, companies like Uber and Ola Cabs will also directly come under the purview of government rules.
New rule will be implemented under Motor Vehicle Act
The Transport Minister said that this decision has been taken under Section 93 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Government of India had changed the rules related to this law on July 1, 2025. Now Uttar Pradesh government is also going to implement the same rule. Till now there was no direct control over app-based taxi services, but after the implementation of the new rules, the companies will have to complete registration, license and other necessary formalities.

It will be necessary to have complete information about the driver
According to the government, sometimes it became difficult to find out who was driving the cab and what was his record. For this reason, now complete investigation of drivers will be necessary. Under the new rules, medical test, police verification and fitness check of the vehicle will be conducted for the cab drivers. Without this, no vehicle will be able to serve passengers through the app.
Fees and license process will be this much
- The government has also fixed the fees related to registration and license.
- To apply, you will have to pay a fee of around Rs 25 thousand.
- If a company has 50 to 100 or more vehicles, the license fee will be up to Rs 5 lakh.
- Renewal of license will have to be done every 5 years.
- The fee for renewal has been fixed at Rs 5,000.
The government says that these rules will bring transparency in the entire system and passengers will be able to have a safer journey.
A new app will be made soon, the public will get complete information
The Transport Minister also informed that the government is planning to develop an app in which all the information related to cabs will be publicly available. Through this app, people will be able to easily see the driver’s name, vehicle information and other important details. This will give confidence to the passengers and it will also be easier to take action in case of any complaint.
Rules will be implemented as soon as the notification is issued
It has been said by the government that as soon as the official notification of this decision is issued, these rules will be implemented in the entire Uttar Pradesh. After this, no cab service will be able to run without registration, fitness test, medical test and police verification. The government believes that this decision will be an important step towards making cab services in the state more safe, organized and reliable.
