New Delhi: The political atmosphere in New Delhi reached a boiling point on Tuesday as a united Opposition launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led administration. The outcry follows a nationwide surge in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices and a mounting shortage that has left many citizens in distress.
Opposition leaders accused the government of gross negligence in managing fuel stocks and failing to shield the common man from global economic volatility.
‘Gas will be provided only for domestic use’
Leading the charge on social media, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal highlighted a drastic shift in supply chains, stating that LPG deliveries have been severed for all commercial establishments nationwide, barring hospitals and schools. “LPG gas supplies have been cut off nationwide to all commercial establishments, except educational institutions and hospitals. Gas will be provided only for domestic use,” former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote on X.
‘PM Modi is bowing to Trump’
Kejriwal warned that the energy crisis is poised to deteriorate further and raised provocative questions regarding foreign influence, asking if India is suffering because the Prime Minister is “bowing to Trump due to some compulsions.” “The situation of gas and oil is likely to worsen in the coming days,” he added.
‘War in West Asia is causing serious damage to our economy’
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi linked the domestic turmoil directly to the escalating conflict in West Asia. He slammed the Prime Minister as “compromised,” asserting that the administration lacks the courage to discuss the war’s true impact. Gandhi pointed to a devastating economic trifecta, a crashing stock market, rising LPG costs, and historic peaks in global crude oil prices, which he argues are crushing household budgets and small-to-medium enterprises.
“The ongoing war in West Asia is causing serious damage to our economy, but our compromised Prime Minister does not dare to discuss it. The stock market is falling, LPG prices are rising, and global crude oil prices are reaching historic levels – all of which are directly impacting the common man, household budgets and small and medium businesses,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said.
‘Situation today shows that this government is running on God’s grace’
The government’s transparency was also called into question by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who accused the leadership of lying about the country’s stock reserves. “We were lied to that we have sufficient stock reserves. The situation today shows that this government is running on God’s grace,” she remarked, noting that despite promises not to burden citizens, the administration’s first move was to hike gas prices within a single week.
The regional impact was voiced by JMM MP Mahua Maji, who reported scenes of desperation in Ranchi, where citizens are enduring long queues for both LPG and petrol. Maji demanded that the government clarify its foreign policy, noting that public anxiety is growing as the West Asia conflict shows no signs of stopping.
” The government should tclarify on its foreign policy. Yesterday, it was being said that the no-confidence motion was not moved, it was because when it was decided to move the motion, the situation was different….,” she said.
‘Govt’s three-member panel will not be able to prevent crisis’
Adding a grim economic forecast, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad dismissed the government’s newly formed three-member panel intended to investigate supply issues. Prasad predicted that the shortage would worsen daily, triggering uncontrollable inflation and leaving the government “incapable” of protecting the economy.
“Their (govt) panel (three-member panel to examine supply issues) will not be able to prevent this. It will increase day by day, and the shortage of LPG cylinders will affect our economy, inflation will rise badly, and the government will become helpless. They are incapable of doing anything,” he said.
