Ancestral tarpan

In Hinduism, during the ancestral side, there is a special significance of offering ancestors, shraddha and pindadan. It is believed that this makes the soul of ancestors satisfied and attains salvation. During the Pitru Paksha, ancestors come to the earth for 15 days and bless their descendants. You must have seen that whenever the ancestors are offered, they offer water with thumb. But do you know why this is so and what is the reason for this? Let us tell you.

Why do the fathers offer water from the thumb?

According to religious beliefs, the tradition of offering water to the ancestors started from the Mahabharata-Ramayana period. It is believed that Prabhu Shriram gave water to his father King Dasaratha and Pandavas while offering their families. The reason for giving water to the ancestors with the thumb is described in the scriptures. According to the scriptures, every part of a person is considered to be subject to some deity or planet. In this way, the thumb of the person is considered to be the abode of ancestors.

Benefits of giving water to fathers with thumb

According to the Mahabharata and Agni Purana, giving water to the ancestors with the thumb brings peace to their soul. According to the worship method of religious texts, the part of the palm on which the thumb is called, that part is called Pitra Tirtha. For this reason, the water offered from the thumb reaches the bodies through the ancestral pilgrimage and when the water falls on the bodies, then only the ancestors get food.

If the thumb did not offer water

According to religious beliefs, the ancestors are also said to offer water to the thumb, if water is offered with any other finger, then it does not reach the ancestors. In such a situation, neither fathers get food nor water, which does not attain salvation.
