The hotel and restaurant industry has been troubled by the sudden shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in big cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. Restaurant organizations have warned that if the gas supply does not normalize soon, hundreds of restaurants may be closed in the coming days. People associated with the hospitality sector say that the availability of commercial LPG has suddenly decreased. According to Vijay Shetty, President of India Hotels and Restaurants Association, currently about 10–20% of the restaurants are affected by the gas shortage, and if the supply is not improved in two-three days, many restaurants in Mumbai may have to be closed.
