After 9 months, Sitaare Zameen Par locks OTT platform: Where to watch Aaamir Khan’s film?

Sitaare Zameen Par OTT release platform: After months of anticipation, Aamir Khan’s sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par is finally heading to streaming platforms. Nearly nine months after its theatrical release, the film will soon premiere on SonyLIV.

Directed by RS Prasanna, the film initially premiered in cinemas before experimenting with a unique digital strategy. At the time of its release, Aamir had said the movie would not arrive on traditional OTT platforms. Instead, it later became available through a pay-per-view model on YouTube for viewers in India and several international markets.

The OTT release announcement came through SonyLIV’s official Instagram page, where the platform shared the trailer and confirmed the upcoming streaming debut. The move opens the film to a broader audience after its successful theatrical run. Often described as a spiritual successor to the beloved Taare Zameen Par, the sports drama once again explores themes of empathy, personal growth and understanding people who see the world differently.

Sitaare Zameen Par story and cast

In the film, Aamir plays Gulshan Arora, a once-celebrated basketball coach whose career takes a sudden turn after a professional setback. As part of community service, he is asked to train a group of young basketball players with disabilities.

Initially hesitant, Gulshan gradually develops a strong bond with the team. As they prepare for an important tournament, the coach begins to realise that the players teach him powerful lessons about resilience, compassion and perspective.

The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh alongside Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai and Naman Misra.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions with Aparna Purohit, B. Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka, the film was developed over nearly three years. The screenplay was written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.

The project is also an official remake of the acclaimed Spanish film Champions, which follows a similar story about a disgraced coach training a team of players with intellectual disabilities. Made on an estimated budget of Rs 122 crore, Sitaare Zameen Par performed strongly at the box office, earning over Rs 266.49 crore worldwide.
