The story of Mars’s birth is quite interesting. Mars is the son of Lord Shiva and Earth. According to the legend, a demon named Andhakasura performed severe penance for Lord Shiva. Lord Bholenath was very pleased with the penance of Andhakasura. When they asked him to ask for a boon, Andhakasura asked for the boon that wherever his blood drops fall, hundreds of demons like him should be born there.
Lord Shiva gave Andhakasura his desired boon. As soon as the boon was received, Andhakasura created an uproar in all three worlds. After this, the distressed people sought refuge in Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva fought a fierce battle with Andhakasura. While fighting with Andhakasura, some drops of sweat from Lord Shiva’s forehead fell on the earth, where this happened, the earth split into two. From this, Mangal Dev was born.
Mars absorbed the drops of blood within itself
When Lord Shiva killed Andhakasura, at the same time Mangal Dev absorbed the drops of the demon’s blood within himself. So that his blood does not fall on the earth and no other demon can be born. Since Mars absorbed blood within itself, he is considered the son of the earth. Due to his origin from the earth, God Mars is also called Bhaum.
