Gangaur fast 2026: Gangaur fast has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. Gangaur fast is observed every year on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Women observe this fast in many areas of North India including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh. According to mythological beliefs, observing this fast leads to happy married life and prolongs the life of the husband. It is believed that Mother Parvati had obtained Lord Shiva as her husband by fasting on Gangaur.
Unmarried girls also observe Gangaur fast with the hope of getting a suitable groom. The word Gangaur is made up of two words Gana and Gaur. While Gana is considered to be Lord Shiva, Gaur is considered to be Mother Parvati. When is Gangaur Vrat? (When is Gangaur Vrat 2026)
According to Drik Panchang, this year the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is starting on 21 March 2026 at 02:30 AM. This date will end on the same day at 11:56 pm. In such a situation, Gangaur fast will be observed on Saturday, March 21.
Auspicious time for worship of Gangaur Vrat (Gangaur Vrat 2026 Puja Subh Muhurat)
- Sunrise- will happen at 06:24 in the morning.
- Brahma Muhurta- Will be from 04:49 AM to 05:36 AM.
- Abhijit Muhurta- Will be from 12:04 pm to 12:52 pm.
- Evening Evening Muhurta- Will be from 06:32 PM to 07:43 PM.
Gangaur Vrat Puja Vidhi
On the day of Gangaur fast, take bath and wear pure clothes. Then place a stool in the temple and spread a red colored cloth on it. After this, place a plate on the platform and make idols of Gauri and Shiva from clay on it. Then fold your hands and take a pledge to fast. After this, decorate the idols of Gods and Goddesses with beautiful clothes and jewellery. Install the Kalash near the idol and worship Gauri-Shankar ji.
Offer them flowers, fruits, nuts, sweets and incense sticks. Do Aarti after chanting the mantra. Worship Gana and Gaur ji again in the evening. After listening to the story of the fast, immerse the idol in a pure river. Break the fast by drinking water.
