Hydrogen Train Next Route List: On which routes will the hydrogen train run after Jind-Sonipat? Is your city included in this? Know the complete heritage route list of Railways.
Hydrogen Train in India: A new beginning has taken place in the country today, on 17th July. The first hydrogen train ran from Jind, Haryana. This is a train which neither uses diesel nor requires overhead electrical wires. This train produces its own electricity. Now the question is whether this train will reach your city in the coming days? Let us know what is the plan of Railways and where this train can go in the next phase…
How is the hydrogen train?
This train has 10 coaches and about 2600 passengers can travel together, due to which it is being called the world’s largest hydrogen train. The country’s largest refueling plant has also been built in Jind to fill hydrogen in this train. Currently this train is running between Jind and Sonipat. Its maximum speed has been kept at 75 kilometers per hour.
Ticket price for the first hydrogen train?
The fare for a single journey is expected to be kept between Rs 5 to Rs 25 only. Due to which the passengers are going to get a lot of relief. This means that traveling in this train will be very cheap and if it runs in the rest of the country, then your traveling expenses can be quite low.
Will this train run only till Jind-Sonipat?
No. Railways’ plan is much bigger than this. Actually Jind-Sonipat route is just the first test. If this pilot project is successful, then later hydrogen trains will also be introduced on Darjeeling, Kalka-Shimla and other hilly and non-electric routes of the country. Actually, Railways had prepared this entire plan many years ago. In the year 2020-21, a scheme named ‘Hydrogen for Heritage’ was started, under which a target was set to run 35 hydrogen trains on the heritage and hilly routes of the country.
On which routes can hydrogen train run?
The heritage routes which the Railways is eyeing include routes like Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kalka-Shimla Railway, Matheran Hill Railway, Kangra Valley, Bilmora-Waghai and Marwar-Devgarh Madaria. All these routes currently run on narrow gauge with diesel engines only. That is, it is difficult and expensive to lay electric wires in these places, so the hydrogen train fits perfectly here.
Why is Railways running hydrogen trains?
Indian Railways aims to become a completely net-zero carbon emitter by the year 2030. Laying electricity cables in hilly areas is a very expensive task, in such a situation hydrogen technology will reduce the dependence on diesel and huge electrification expenses will also be saved. With this achievement, India has joined the few countries where hydrogen trains run. India has now joined the list of countries like Germany, Japan and China where hydrogen trains are already running.
When will the hydrogen train reach your city?
Currently, trials have started only on the Jind-Sonipat route. Railways will first test the data and experience gained from this route, only after that work will start on further routes. This means that it may take time for hydrogen trains to arrive on routes like Darjeeling, Kalka-Shimla, but it is clear that this technology can reach many parts of the country in the coming years.
Disclaimer: Expansion plans on further routes will depend on the success of the Jind-Sonipat pilot project. The dates and routes are currently proposed, the final decision will depend on the official announcement of the Railways.
