Gandhinagar. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has pledged to take forward the resolution of ‘Developed India@2047’ given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the target of ‘Developed Gujarat@2047’ in Amritkaal. To accelerate the overall and balanced development of the state, the Chief Minister has constituted the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT). This organization is working towards long-term and result-oriented development on the basis of infrastructure, innovation, individual capability and institutional development.

Roadmap for long term development prepared through GRIT

Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, GRIT plans to develop six major growth hubs for balanced and comprehensive development of the state. Regional Economic Master Plans have been prepared in a short time keeping in mind the needs of each region. Under this scheme, Surat Economic Region (SER) is being developed as the growth hub of South Gujarat. To strengthen the road infrastructure in this area, the Chief Minister has first approved projects worth Rs 1185 crore. This decision also reflects the state government’s resolve to ‘do what is said’.

Surat Economic Region: Strong base of Gujarat’s economy

Surat Economic Region (SER) comprises six districts of South Gujarat, including Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and Dang. This sector contributes more than 35 percent to the economy of Gujarat and is considered a major economic center of the state in terms of industrial development.

SER plays an important role in the vision of developed Gujarat@2047

Gujarat has played an important role in the economic development of India. With this in mind, work is being done on the ‘Developed Gujarat@2047’ roadmap under the leadership of the Chief Minister. The objective of this roadmap is to achieve the goal of ‘Earning Well – Living Well’, so that the economy of the state becomes strong and the standard of living of the people improves. To achieve this goal, Surat Economic Region is being developed as a major center for long-term economic development.

383 km road projects worth Rs 1185 crore approved

Strengthening the road infrastructure is an important step under the economic master plan prepared for the development of SER. Under this, Rs 1185 crore has been sanctioned for 24 road projects of total length of 383 kilometers in Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Bharuch and Navsari districts. These projects are expected to lead to better connectivity, faster transportation and increased economic activities in the region.

Road infrastructure upgradation will increase logistics capacity.

Improvement in road network will strengthen connectivity between industrial hubs and GIDC areas. This will make movement of goods and workers easier and faster. Along with this, textile, chemical, petrochemical and diamond industries will also get huge benefits, which will boost industrial production and trade activities.

Industrial expansion will get a new opportunity

Many industrial areas in the region will benefit from this road infrastructure upgradation. Industries like Fisheries, Hazira Port, Sugar Factory, Sumul Dairy, Papad Industry, Mining and Lignite Project will get better transportation facilities. Apart from this, connectivity of major GIDC industrial areas like Kadod, Kadodara, Jolwa, Mangrol, Kosamba and Tadkeshwar will be strengthened, which will give new impetus to industrial expansion.

There will be a rise in transportation of agricultural products

Farmers of South Gujarat will also get huge benefits due to improved road network. It will be easier to transport agricultural products to the market and the time taken in transportation will be reduced. This will increase the chances of farmers getting better markets and fair prices.

Religious and natural tourism will get a boost

There are many important religious and tourist places in South Gujarat, prominent among which are Siddhanath Mahadev, Shabridham, Pandav Cave, Anjanikund and Parsi Agiyari of Sanjan. Better road connectivity will make it easier to reach these places. Apart from this, tourism activities will also get new impetus in famous tourist places and eco-tourism areas like Saputara and Wilson Hills.

New employment opportunities for youth

Diamond, textile, petrochemical and chemical industries are already strong in Surat Economic Region. Now with better road infrastructure, the possibilities of investment and development in emerging sectors like semiconductor, green hydrogen and logistics will also increase. This will create new employment opportunities on a large scale in the area and the youth will get better employment options.

SER will become growth engine for developed Gujarat@2047

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has aimed to make Surat Economic Region a strategic growth engine of ‘Develop Gujarat@2047’. The state government expects the sector to play an important role in achieving the target of $3.5 trillion economy by 2047 and contribute more than 35 per cent to the state’s GSDP. This approval of road infrastructure upgradation will give a new impetus to the infrastructure based development in the region and will set new milestones in the development of Surat Economic Region.
