Delhi Woman Solo Trip: A shocking incident has come to light in Nainital, famous for the beautiful mountains and lakes of Uttarakhand. A solo trip turned into a nightmare for a 31-year-old Delhi woman when a taxi driver allegedly tried to rape her by stopping the vehicle on a deserted road. To save her life, the woman had to spend the whole night hiding in the forest.
Is solo travel no longer safe in Nainital?
According to the police, this incident took place on the night of March 5. Traveling from Delhi, the woman first reached Dehradun and then hired a taxi from Kathgodam to Nainital. Initially everything was normal, but at around 1:30 in the night the situation suddenly changed. On the way, the driver turned the car away from the main road towards a deserted road. This place is said to be near Patwa Dangar. When the woman became suspicious, she protested, but it is alleged that the driver stopped the car and started abusing and beating her.
After all, how did the woman save herself?
According to the woman, the driver snatched her mobile phone and tried to molest her. Understanding the situation, the woman showed courage and as soon as she got the chance, she got out of the car and ran towards the forest. In injured condition and without a mobile phone, she remained hidden in the dense forest the whole night so that the accused could not find her.
The whole story was revealed after reaching the village in the morning.
Somehow, early in the morning, the woman reached nearby Patwa Dangar village. The local people there helped him and took him to the police. After this the woman lodged a complaint about the entire incident. The police took immediate action and collected evidence and sent the woman for medical examination. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police registered a case under sections related to attempt to rape, robbery and kidnapping.
How was the accused driver caught?
During the investigation, the police took the help of CCTV cameras, taxi numbers and GPS system. Based on this, the accused driver was identified as Deepak Singh Bora (39), who is said to be a resident of Haldwani. The police have also recovered the woman’s stolen mobile phone from the accused and the taxi in which the incident took place has also been seized.
What did the police say?
Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC said that the safety of tourists coming to Nainital is the biggest priority. He clearly said that in such cases, strict legal action will be taken against the accused. He also warned taxi owners to thoroughly check the documents and identity of drivers before providing them with vehicles. Action can also be taken against them if they do not follow the rules.

This incident once again raises questions about whether the security arrangements for travelers at popular tourist destinations are adequate. A new debate has started regarding safety, especially for women traveling solo. However, in this case, due to the courage and wisdom of the woman, a major crime was averted.
