Rahul Gandhi attacks one-sided ‘freebies’ narrative, says Ambani and Adani benefits terms of ‘development’

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi attended an event in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Saturday, March 7, where he interacted with the public. Gandhi again took a dig at the BJP, offering land at throwaway prices to the Adani and Ambani groups.

He said that when the poor receive subsidies to survive, it’s called ‘revdi’ and ‘freebies,’ but when Adani and Ambani receive tax-exempt land and their lakhs of crores in loan write-offs, it’s called ‘development.’

Responding to a question on freebies making people poorer, Gandhi said if the government stopped giving the freebies to Adani and Ambani, then automatically the freebies to poor people would also be waived off.

Gandhi also added that the poor people request freebies because they need them, but first of all, the BJP had to waive off the freebies in the name of development for five-six big businesses.

Rahul Gandhi on waiving freebies from poor people

According to him, around 16 lakh crore was waived off, and the Congress MP urged reporters not to look at one side of freebies, as they do not discuss Adani’s and Ambani’s freebies and focus only on poor people receiving freebies to survive.

I am looking for a win-win situation and don’t want it to be portrayed as one-sided freebies. The amount of freebies is an order of magnitude, thousands of times what our poor people get; that’s a fact, and nobody can get away from it,” Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stated.

Gandhi also said that he is more than happy to remove all freebies from poor people, but then the likes of Adani’s and Ambani’s freebies also should be snatched away.
