This case is being reported from Birur area of Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. According to the police, the accused Shafi has been arrested for the murder of his friend Puttaraju. Puttaraju was a welder by profession and both were friends for the last seven years.
Was the pretext of gold auction just a trap?
According to police investigation, on February 19, accused Shafi called his friend Puttaraju and told him that a finance company was organizing a gold auction. He said that if he brought money then gold could be bought at a cheaper price. Through friendship and trust, Puttaraju came to believe this. He left his house at around 11 am the same day with around Rs 2.5 lakh in cash. Perhaps he had no idea that this meeting would become the last meeting of his life.
Was a murder conspiracy hatched by taking them to the forest?
According to the police, Shafi took his friend on a bike to a deserted forest area near Honnavalli. After reaching there, he allegedly attacked Puttaraju with a knife. Puttaraju died on the spot in the attack. After this the accused fled from there with the cash. This entire incident happened in a very isolated area, so no one could get information about it immediately.
How did the entire murder case come to light?
Next morning a milkman was passing through that forest road. He saw a dead body of a person on the roadside and immediately informed the police. Police reached the spot and started investigation. The body was later identified as that of Puttaraju. The police then investigated his last movements and found out that he was last seen with Shafi.
Was the gift bought with stolen money?
Another shocking thing came to light in the investigation. Police learned that after the murder, accused Shafi met his estranged second wife at a lodge in Arasikere. It is being told that he gave her Rs 60,000 and also bought a new television for her with the stolen money. This information became an important clue for the police and the investigation turned towards the accused.
