The current champion Team India reached Ahmedabad from Mumbai on Friday for the final match of T20 World Cup 2026. This title match will be held on Sunday, March 8 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. New Zealand Will be played against. The ‘Men in Blue’ have made it to the T20 World Cup final for a record fourth time by defeating England by 7 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. But in the last overs, the Indian bowlers showed restraint and registered a thrilling win by 7 runs and secured their ticket to the final.

Team India has returned to the same ground where it had to face defeat from South Africa in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Not only this, the team also has bitter memories associated with Narendra Modi Stadium, when Australia defeated it in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Hotel changed before T20 World Cup final

Team India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) want to completely erase the negative memories associated with this ground. Therefore, the team was not accommodated in the same hotel where it had stayed during its earlier tour to Ahmedabad in this tournament.

According to the report of Press Trust of India, ‘Men in Blue’ has not been hosted at ITC Narmada Hotel. The team stayed in this hotel during the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Instead, the team has shifted to the Taj Skyline Hotel upon reaching Ahmedabad to rejuvenate before the big match against New Zealand. BCCI took this decision in consultation with the team management, so that there is no old baggage of any kind before this high-stakes match.

Even during the match against South Africa in Super 8, the Indian team stayed in ITC Narmada. But for the final, the team has shifted its base to Taj Skyline as part of the fresh start.

Dressing room also changed

Apart from changing the hotel, the Indian team has also decided to change its dressing room at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. To break the old memories before the final against New Zealand, the team has chosen the dressing room given to the visiting team. Now ‘Black Caps’ i.e. New Zealand team will use the dressing room of the home team.

The dressing room allotted to India was the same one that the team used during its defeat against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final and against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8. Considering these bad memories, the team management and BCCI decided to change the dressing room for the final.

History will be at stake on Sunday. Team India would like to become the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title and become champion for the record third time. Not only this, till date no team has won the T20 World Cup on its home soil. In such a situation, ‘Men in Blue’ will have a golden opportunity to create history in front of the domestic audience.

On the other hand, the New Zealand team will aim to win their first ICC World Cup title in all formats. They must be hoping that this time the streak of losing in the finals is broken.
