Baharampur (West Bengal) [भारत]July 17 (ANI): A train collided with a school van at Karnasuvarna railway crossing in Baharampur, Murshidabad on Friday morning. Three students died and many others were injured in the accident. The van was crossing the tracks around 7:00 am when the train hit the vehicle hard. The injured school students are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

According to local sources, the students were going to school in a van around 7:00 am. At that time, the railway crossing was open in Karnasuvarna area. As soon as the van climbed the tracks, a train arrived and hit the vehicle at high speed. The school van overturned due to the collision. Three students died on the spot.

The injured children were rescued and immediately admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. Hospital sources say the condition of many children is critical; Therefore, the death toll is likely to increase. After the accident, there is mourning and deep tension in the area.

Union Minister demanded investigation

Meanwhile, Union Minister and BJP West Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar expressed deep grief over the deaths in the school van-train collision in Baharampur, Murshidabad. Seeking to fix accountability, the Minister stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of this fatal accident at the railway level crossing.

He said, “Any loss of life is tragic, but the deaths of children are even more heartbreaking. A thorough investigation is necessary, and I am confident that the Railways will conduct a separate investigation.” (ANI)
