Kanwar Yatra 2026: Saavan will start in this month. The month of Saavan is of Lord Shiva. Special worship of Lord Shiva is done in this month. His Jalabhishek is performed. There is a religious belief that by performing puja and Jalabhishek in this month, Mahadev removes everything. According to Drik Panchang, this year Saavan, the holy month of devotion to Lord Shiva, is starting from 30th July, which will end with Saavan Purnima on 28th August.

There are different contexts regarding Kanwar Yatra in different texts and traditions, hence no single story of Kanwar Yatra can be considered as a universally accepted historical fact, rather all of them are seen as religious beliefs. According to the most popular belief, Lord Parshuram is said to be the most Kanwariya in the world.

It is said that in Tretayuga, Lord Parshuram had brought holy Ganga water from Garhmukteshwar and anointed Lord Shiva at Pura Mahadev Temple in Uttar Pradesh. It is said that the tradition of bringing water and offering it to Shiva in Kanwar started from here. It is believed that even today this place has a special connection with the Kanwar Yatra.

From when to when will Kanwar Yatra be held in the year 2026?

In the year 2026, Kanwar Yatra will run from 30 July to 28 August. However, the main Kanwar Yatra will continue till 11 August 2026 only. Because this will be the day when the festival of Shivratri in the month of Sawan will be celebrated. According to tradition, most of the Kanwariyas conclude their Kanwar Yatra on this day by performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.
