Punjab Flood Relief Package: The Punjab government declared a compensation of ₹ 20,000 per acre for flood affected farmers. With the scheme “field, its sand” scheme, farmers will be able to sell the sand of the fields. The victim families will get ₹ 4 lakh and 6 months relief on loan repayment.
Chandigarh The state government has made a big announcement of relief for the farmers of Punjab facing floods. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, it was decided that farmers will be given ₹ 20,000 per acre to make up for crop loss. Along with this, “the field, its sand” scheme has been approved, under which farmers will be able to sell the sand from their fields and sell them.
Farmers got exemption to sell sand
During the floods, sand was frozen in the fields in many districts, which was a difficult and expensive task for the farmers. Now the government has given the facility to the farmers that they can remove the sand from the fields and sell it in the market. This will increase their income and the fields will be able to become cultivable again. Chief Minister Mann said that farmers will not only be able to clean the fields, but will also be able to compensate for the loss done by selling sand.

The biggest compensation on crop loss
It was declared in the cabinet meeting that the affected farmers will get ₹ 20,000 compensation per acre. According to officials, this is the largest amount ever given by any state to farmers across the country. It is estimated that the flood has ruined the crop on about 1.76 lakh hectares of land. The Chief Minister assured that the compensation amount will soon be delivered to the farmers.
₹ 4 lakh to flood -affected families
Apart from crop damage, the families of people who lost their lives in floods will be given compensation of ₹ 4 lakh. Chief Minister Mann said that this decision is to give economic and emotional support to the victim families.
6 months relief on farmers’ debt
The biggest concern of farmers is about debt repayment. After the crops were ruined by the floods, the state government has extended the deadline for repayment of loans taken from cooperative societies and state agricultural banks by 6 months. During this time no interest will be added to the farmers.
Compensation for loss of house and cattle
The state government has also decided that compensation will also be given for houses and cattle damaged by floods. The affected families will be surveyed and they will be provided with appropriate financial assistance.
Government promise for farmers
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the government will provide all possible help and will not leave the farmers alone in this hour of crisis. He assured that farmers and rural families will get a new support from the relief package.
