‘Dhongi baba’: Navjot Singh Sidhu slams Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir over failed India prediction

New Delhi: Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu took a dig at Pakistan fast bowler Mohammed Amir after the Men in Blue qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026 final. Sidhu called pacer Amir a “Dhongi Baba”, mocking his predictions about India getting knocked out of the tournament.

Sidhu’s reaction came after India registered a thrilling seven-run win over England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5. Speaking in a video posted on Instagram, Sidhu slammed Amir’s repeated predictions that India won’t advance in the tournament.

He said that people around us have a habit of making fake predictions. Sidhu further added that firstly, they predicted that the West Indies and South Africa would qualify for the semifinals from India’s Super 8 group, and then claimed that England would win the knockout clash, but they also got eliminated.

“People around us have a big habit of making fake predictions. If it comes true, good; if not, they just brush it off. If it works, they call it an arrow; if not, they say it was just a guess. And still they continue to act like some kind of wise Baba. Honestly, I think such people are just fake (dhongi) babas,” Sidhu said.

The former Indian cricketer further said that predictions don’t decide results, and matches are decided on the field. “You don’t earn a throne by begging for it. Empty vessels make the most noise. That’s the whole point,” he added.

Mohammad Amir predictions

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir first predicted that India wouldn’t qualify for the semifinals of the tournament, and later backed England to beat the Men in Blue in the knockout match in Mumbai.

After India’s victory, Amir said that they played good cricket after struggling in the tournament, but England had let the match slip because of dropping crucial catches.

“I did make a good prediction, but dropping a catch, that’s not in my hands. If you drop the catch of an in-form batter, this is what happens. The only difference between the two teams was Bumrah. If Harry Brook would have taken the catch of Samson, this target would have been chased down by England with an over to spare,” he added.

The Men in Blue will square off against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.
