Dodge 900 bhp producing Charger EV might still be on cards

New Delhi: In the previous year, it had been reported that Dodge might actually cancel their high-performance Charger Banshee EV, the version rumoured to have a performance figure of 900 bhp. Plans, though, changed when former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares left. However, Dodge CEO Matt McAlear has a different viewpoint about the high-performance model.

Whilst speaking to Canada’s Driving, Dodge’s head noted that Banshee was never killed off. Whilst McAlear didn’t confirm if the model was still in development, it does appear that the project isn’t fully off the table. McAlear further said that the brand didn’t alter their plans following Tavare’s exit.

He said that the only thing different was the mix from the viewpoint of production. Even though Dodge stopped the entry-level Charger Daytona R/T EV back in May for the 2026 model year, it still sells the 650 bhp trim for the Charger Daytona Scat Pack, along with ICE models.

Tavares’ exit has made Dodge much more “flexible in terms of multiple powertrains”, and one of them could be a return of the Hellcat motor. Rumours have been strong that Dodge is already developing the Hellcat version of the current Charger, but it might not be at the top of the line.

Even though Stellantis in America has found its calling in being flexible with Ram bringing back the Hemi-powered 1500, the carmaker hasn’t completely changed their pathway. A 900-bhp Charger sounds amazing, but it can’t be the brand’s only high-performance option, and the brand always has space for a V8 to keep fans across powertrain preferences happy.
