New Delhi: Ducati is preparing to expand its line-up in India with a very different type of motorcycle. The Italian brand is expected to introduce the Ducati Desmo450 MX in the country soon. Recently, Ducati shared a post on its social media featuring the Ducati Desmo450 MX with the caption “Coming Soon”. It will be the company’s first motorcycle designed specifically for motocross riding.
The new bike shows a change in direction for the brand. Ducati has traditionally focused on high-performance motorcycles meant for asphalt. But with off-road racing gaining attention globally, the company has now decided to step into the motocross segment as well. The Desmo450 MX is part of Ducati’s larger plan to compete in international motocross events.
Engine and performance

Power for the Desmo450 MX comes from a newly developed 449.6cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The motor uses Ducati’s well-known desmodromic valve system, a technology that is usually seen on the company’s high-performance sport bikes.
The engine is capable of producing about 62 bhp and roughly 54 Nm of torque. It can also rev close to 12,000 rpm, which is considered strong performance for a motocross motorcycle.
Chassis and hardware

The bike uses a lightweight aluminium frame that is designed to stay stable while riding on rough terrain. Suspension is handled by fully adjustable Showa components, including 49 mm front forks and a rear monoshock.
Braking duties are managed by Brembo hardware, which should offer strong stopping power in demanding riding conditions. Ducati has also added traction control, a feature that is rarely seen on motocross motorcycles.
Limited audience in India
Ducati Desmo450 MX
If launched, the Desmo450 MX will likely target a small group of off-road riders and motorsport enthusiasts in India. Because motocross bikes are usually used only for racing or track riding, the number of units sold in the country is expected to remain limited.
