Is BJP in driver’s seat in Bihar? Nitish Kumar’s Rajya Sabha move sparks Bihar CM buzz, son’s debut

Patna:  Bihar’s political landscape is abuzz with high-stakes manoeuvres and intense speculation as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar prepares to file his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. This move, confirmed by top Janata Dal (United) sources, coincides with a whirlwind visit from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Shah will not only accompany Kumar but also oversee a critical dialogue with JDU leaders,  discussions widely believed to centre on the state’s next Chief Minister and the surprising entry of Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, into active politics.

Nitish Kumar’s shift to the Rajya Sabha

The decision for Nitish Kumar to seek a seat in the Rajya Sabha marks a significant potential shift in his storied career. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence during the nomination filing shows the gravity and strategic importance of this development within the NDA alliance.

Amit Shah’s power visit to Patna

Home Minister Shah is expected to touch down in Patna by 11 am tomorrow, embarking on a busy schedule. Beyond accompanying CM Kumar, Shah will also attend the Rajya Sabha nomination filings of BJP President Nitin Navin and Shivesh Kumar, demonstrating the BJP’s consolidation of its position ahead of anticipated changes. Crucially, Shah’s visit will include closed-door talks with JDU leadership, fueling frenzied speculation across the state capital.

A BJP CM for Bihar?

The most explosive rumour emanating from these high-level political currents is the imminent elevation of a BJP leader to the Chief Minister’s post in Bihar. Sources suggest that an announcement regarding the next Chief Minister could come within the next two to three days, signalling a potentially seismic shift in the state’s governance.

Nishant Kumar’s “dramatic entry” into politics

Adding another layer of intrigue is the strong indication that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, is poised to make his grand entry into active politics. While official confirmation remains elusive from either the JDU or the NDA, whispers have grown louder, with some senior ministers close to the Chief Minister publicly hinting at a “dramatic entry” for Nishant Kumar. Reports suggest he could even be elevated to the post of Deputy Chief Minister, a pivotal role in the state’s executive.

The intensity of these developments was highlighted by the arrival of key JDU figures in Patna today. JDU’s national working president, Sanjay Jha, flew in from Delhi for an extended closed-door meeting with Nitish Kumar, followed by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, making his way from the national capital to join the unfolding discussions.

Rajya Sabha battle lines drawn

Amid these internal realignments, the broader political arena is also witnessing a contest for Rajya Sabha seats. Tomorrow, former Rajya Sabha MP Amarendra Dhari Singh is set to file his nomination as the Mahagathbandhan’s candidate. He will face a direct challenge from NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha, adding another layer of electoral competition to Bihar’s charged political atmosphere.

As the nomination filings proceed and high-level meetings unfold, all eyes are on Patna, awaiting the definitive announcements that will shape Bihar’s political future.
