The Bihar election is a big challenge for the Grand Alliance of NDA from Champaran to Mithilanchal in 2025. The strong base of the NDA in 39 seats is challenging the strategy and leadership of the Grand Alliance.
Patna: The Bihar Assembly Elections can prove to be the biggest challenge for the grand alliance in the Champaran-Mithilanchal region in 2025. In the 2020 assembly seats in East Champaran, Western Champaran, Darbhanga and Sitamarhi, the NDA performed brilliantly and won 32 seats, while the Grand Alliance was reduced to just 7 seats.
NDA’s tremendous victory in 2020
Out of the 12 seats in East Champaran, the NDA won 9 seats, while the Grand Alliance got only 3 seats. The situation was worse in West Champaran – out of 9 seats, the NDA won 8 seats and the Grand Alliance had to be satisfied with just 1 seat. In Darbhanga, 10 seats were captured by NDA up to 9 seats, while RJD got only 1 seat. The performance of the Grand Alliance was disappointing even in 8 seats of Sitamarhi. Here the NDA maintained its dominance by winning 6 seats.
Big challenge before the grand alliance
This time 8 parties have joined the Grand Alliance, including RJD, Congress, VIP, apart from Pashupati Kumar Paras’s RLOJP and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. No clear formula has been made so far regarding seat sharing. The growing demands of the Congress are becoming a headache for Tejashwi Yadav. The Congress has demanded 70 seats, while the CPI-Chal is also claiming more seats.
Signs of tension in NDA also
Although the position of the NDA looks strong, the demand for 40 seats of Chirag Paswan and the claim of 20 seats by Jitan Ram Manjhi are indicating stretch in the alliance. Political experts say that the Grand Alliance will have to make a radical change in its strategy in these areas. Ethnic equations, local issues and selection of influential candidates will be important for the success of the Grand Alliance.
Chief Minister’s face face
Tejashwi Yadav has been made the face of the Chief Minister’s post in the Grand Alliance, while the NDA still appears to agree on the leadership of Nitish Kumar. However, the possibility of change in the situation cannot be ruled out due to the BJP’s increasing influence. The strong base of the NDA in Champaran-Mithilanchal is a serious challenge for the grand alliance. Given the results of 2020, winning these 39 seats will be as difficult for the Grand Alliance as it is easy for NDA to save them.
