‘Boong’ to re-release on March 6 after BAFTA win

Mumbai: Manipuri movie Boong made Indians proud with its remarkable victory at the BAFTA Awards. It won the Best Children’s and Family Film Award at the ceremony held on February 22. Now the movie is all set for a re-release on March 6, 2026. The film is directed by Lakshmipriya Devi and backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s production house, Excel Entertainment.

Following the covetable win, the makers of the movie decided to re-release the film, which was first released in September 2024. Farhan Akhtar took to social media to announce the good news. He wrote, “A journey of innocence, love, and resilience. Witness India’s first BAFTA Award-winning film, in cinemas on 6th March,” on Instagram.

 

On X, he encouraged fans to watch the movie. “Come and say ‘hello’ to Boong, the first film from India to win the BAFTA Award,” said the actor.

The plot of the story revolves around a boy named Boong, portrayed by Gugun Kipgen. He sets out to find his missing father, hoping that it will make his mother, Mandakini, happy again. The mother’s role is played by Bala Hijam. Subsequently, Boong and his friend Raju, played by Angom Sanamatum, travel to the border town of Moreh. He then crosses into Myanmar in search of his father.

On winning the BAFTA award, the director expressed her gratitude towards the jury members. Devi, who was emotional, stated that the walk to the stage to receive the award felt like the summit of a mountain that the team never knew they were climbing. In her speech, she said, “We hope displaced kids, including our child actors, get back their joy and dreams.” She hoped for peace in Manipur.
